Harvesting in Brotato — when it pays and when it doesn't
Updated 2026-11-03 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws
Harvesting pays out materials and XP at the end of every wave. The part most players miss is that it grows by 5% each time it pays. A point bought in wave 2 pays out nearly twenty times and keeps compounding. A point bought in wave 15 barely gets started.
The rule of thumb
Buy Harvesting early or not at all. Waves 1–6 are where it earns its keep. After wave 10 the same materials usually do more as a weapon upgrade or an item.
Negative Harvesting is the trap. It costs materials and XP at wave end and doesn't grow. Items like Bat and Charcoal carry a −2 that adds up if you stack them.
Characters that change the maths
- Farmer starts with +20 and grows an extra 3% every wave. Harvesting is the plan.
- Entrepreneur gets 50% more out of every Harvesting modifier.
- Saver starts with +15 and a Piggy Bank, so banked materials turn into damage.
- Hunter has Harvesting modifiers reduced by 100%. Don't buy it at all.
- Loud loses 3 Harvesting at the end of every wave. Its income comes from kills instead.
The best Harvesting items, by price
| Item | Harvesting | Catch |
|---|---|---|
| Fertilizer | +8 | −1 Melee Damage |
| Wheelbarrow | +16 | −1 Armor |
| Bowler Hat | +18 | −5% Attack Speed, −3% Crit, but +15 Luck |
| Tractor | +40 | −8% Damage |
| Blood Donation | +40 | You take 1 damage per second |
Fertilizer in the first shop is almost always correct. Tractor is a run-defining buy before wave 5 and a wasted slot after wave 12.
