Reroll math — when a shop reroll is worth more than the items in front of you
Updated 2026-11-03 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws
The reroll button is the most abused control in Brotato. It is also the only way to see a weapon the shop did not offer, so the question is not whether to reroll but when.
How the price works
Each reroll costs more than the last within the same shop, and the base price rises with the wave. Reroll Price items and the Free Rerolls stat change this; Lucky's kit and some Tier II items give free rerolls.
The decision
Compare two numbers: the value of the best thing on offer, and the value of what a fresh shop is likely to show. In practice:
- Reroll when you hold two copies of a weapon short of a merge and the shop shows nothing of your class, and you have more than twice the reroll price in spare materials.
- Reroll on wave 19, every time, until the materials run out. There is no later.
- Do not reroll before wave 4; the materials are a second weapon.
- Do not reroll when the shop already shows a tier upgrade for a weapon you hold. Buy it.
The lock button
Locking an item keeps it in the next shop. Use it to hold a Tier III weapon you cannot afford yet and reroll the other three slots around it; the reroll price is the same whether a slot is locked or not.
Characters that reroll differently
- Arms Dealer rerolls for weapons, which cost him almost nothing, so the reroll is the expensive part of the shop.
- Saver should almost never reroll; the bank is the damage stat.
- Gangster rerolls to find the most expensive item to steal.
- Entrepreneur has a discount on items and loses unspent materials, so rerolling until empty is correct every shop.
The number to remember
A reroll is worth it when the expected value of the new shop exceeds the price and you can still afford what you came for. If you cannot buy the weapon you are rerolling to find, the reroll was entertainment.
