Brotato Primal Dread DLC — everything known so far
Updated 2026-10-31 · for Primal Dread (pre-release)
Primal Dread is Brotato's second paid DLC. It launches on PC (Steam, Epic, GOG) on 2 November 2026 for $3.99 / €3.99 / £3.39. Consoles and mobile follow in early 2027. The DLC can be switched off in Options → Gameplay if you want the plain experience back.
This page is the hub we update as the data comes in. Character, weapon and item pages for the DLC appear in the characters, weapons and items sections with a "Primal Dread" badge and a preliminary flag until we have checked the numbers in game.
What's in it
- A new map set in a prehistoric jungle, with its own regular enemies, elites and bosses.
- New characters, weapons and items. Counts are not public yet; the base game and Abyssal Terrors added 14 characters and 16 weapons, so expect a similar scale.
- New pets, building on the Paws & Claws system.
- The Evolution stat — the headline mechanic, explained below.
- New music, new achievements, new challenges.
Evolution: Mecha or Mutation
Evolution is a new stat with two directions. You push it one way or the other during a run, and the enemies evolve with you.
Mecha path. Reinforce your weapons and pick up extra stats. The trade-off is mecha dinosaurs: they shoot lasers and leave oil puddles across the arena, so positioning gets harder as the run goes on.
Mutation path. Copy and multiply the effects of your items — the chaos option, where a strong item snowballs into an absurd one. Mutant dinosaurs spread acid, so sustained ground damage is the price.
What we don't know yet: how Evolution is gained (items, level-ups, a shop choice?), whether it has a cap like Curse, and how it interacts with Engineering structures and pets. We will fill the Evolution stat page in as soon as the release patch notes and in-game testing confirm the rules.
What this means for existing builds
- Expect a balance pass alongside the DLC; Abyssal Terrors shipped with a long list of base-game changes. Our tier list gets a new version once the dust settles rather than being edited piecemeal.
- Item-copying on the Mutation path favours characters whose power sits in items rather than weapons — think Lucky, Curious and economy characters — while the Mecha path favours weapon-scaling characters such as Brawler and Ranger.
- The new map is a separate selection, so Danger 5 records on the existing maps stand.
