Crit builds — the characters and classes where Crit Chance is the damage stat
Updated 2026-11-03 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws
Crit Chance adds to every weapon's own crit chance; a crit multiplies the hit, usually by 2× and more on some weapons. On a weapon with 3% base crit the stat is weak; on a Knife with 20% or a Shuriken with 35%, it is the whole build.
The weapons
Precise is the crit class: Knife, Shuriken, Crossbow, Sniper Gun, Thief Dagger and Claw all start high, and the set bonus adds up to +15%. Pistol at 10% is the only Gun worth crit on its own. Everything else sits at 1–5% and should scale through flat damage.
The characters
- Crazy — +25% Attack Speed and +100 Range with Precise weapons. The knife build.
- Diver — +200% Crit Damage with Precise and a crit modifier bonus; one Harpoon Gun is free.
- Hunter — Crit Chance modifications +25% and Range as damage; the sniper build.
- Jack — no crit bonus of his own, but single-target burst is what he needs and crit is burst.
The route to 100%
Six Precise weapons give +15%. A Knife starts at 20%, so a Knife rack is at 35% before items. Four or five Crit items bring it to 100%, usually by wave 12 on Crazy or Diver. After 100%, Crit Chance is wasted — switch to flat Melee or Ranged Damage, which multiplies with the crit.
Crit Damage
Fewer items raise Crit Damage, and they are rarer, but each one multiplies everything on a build already critting on every hit. Buy them on sight after 60% Crit Chance.
Where crit fails
Elemental burns do not crit. Structures do not crit. Explosions mostly do not crit. On Mage, Engineer and Artificer the stat is dead; on a mixed rack of Blade and Precise it is half dead. The Precise class guide lists the base crit of every weapon that matters.
