Buccaneer guide — how to play Buccaneer in Brotato

Updated 2026-11-01 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws

Materials are worth double and every pickup resets your weapon cooldowns. Our tier list puts Buccaneer in A tier: Ranged scaling with a naval twist. Consistent at Danger 5.

The stat line

  • Picked up materials have +100% value
  • Picking up a material resets the cooldown of all your weapons
  • -100% Attack Speed
  • -50% materials dropped from enemies

Buccaneer comes with the Abyssal Terrors DLC. Unlock: Reach +100% Pickup Range. Winning a run unlocks Eyepatch.

How the run plays

The Buccaneer attacks only when picking up materials, because -100% Attack Speed otherwise. Enemies drop half as many materials but each is worth double, so the economy is normal while the pickups drive the damage. It is a movement build: you sweep through drops to fire. Weapons with big single hits (Blunderbuss, Crossbow) make each reset count.

Weapons

Buccaneer fits the Gun or Heavy classes best. Start with Cacti Club, Double Barrel Shotgun, Laser Gun, Shredder and hold six weapons of one class for the set bonus; the weapons list shows everything in the Gun class with per-tier damage.

What to buy, what to skip

Pickup Range and Speed first, then slow heavy-hit weapons. Attack Speed items do nothing.

The shop favours Pickup items for Buccaneer, so expect to see these often: Baby Gecko, Baby Elephant, Alien Tongue, Cute Monkey, Cauldron, Metal Detector, Little Frog, Sifd's Relic.

The mistake that ends runs

Standing still to fight — nothing fires until you move onto a pickup.
