Character guides

One page per character: what the passive really means, the weapon class to commit to, what to buy and skip, the mistake that ends runs, and who to pair with in co-op. Written from our own data and play; the tier placement comes from the current tier list.

Apprentice
B tier · A character that turns every level into a small, permanent stat package.
Arms Dealer
B tier · Weapons cost almost nothing, so the Arms Dealer buys six Tier IVs before anyone else has three.
Artificer
A tier · Explosions scale with elemental damage, and nothing else matters.
Baby
B tier · Starts with one weapon slot and grows a new one on every level-up instead of a stat.
Beast Master
B tier · No weapons at all — a team of pets fights for you.
Brawler
B tier · Punches twice as fast and dodges a lot; the easiest melee character to win with.
Buccaneer
A tier · Materials are worth double and every pickup resets your weapon cooldowns.
Builder
C tier · Materials you leave on the ground become turret range and attack speed.
Bull
B tier · A tank that explodes when hit, with regen that scales half again as hard.
Captain
B tier · Empty weapon slots are XP, and level-ups are worth double.
Chef
B tier · Hits burning enemies for triple damage; the best co-op partner a Mage can have.
Chunky
B tier · Max HP is damage, so every heart you buy hits harder.
Crazy
A tier · Fast knives with huge range; crit is the whole plan.
Creature
S tier · Weapons scale with Curse, and the whole run bends around cursed enemies.
Cryptid
S tier · Trees are money, XP and regen; protect the grove and the run plays itself.
Curious
B tier · Loot aliens are the economy, and item variety is XP.
Cyborg
B tier · Ranged damage triples as a modifier and flips into engineering mid-wave.
Demon
C tier · You pay for items with Max HP, and materials become Max HP at wave end.
Diver
A tier · Harpoon Gun for free, and Precise crits hit for triple.
Doctor
C tier · Medical weapons attack three times as fast, and regen is doubled.
Druid
B tier · Fruits drop more and some of them are luck; a slow, rich, slightly poisonous run.
Dwarf
A tier · Big melee hits earn engineering, and engineering earns melee damage.
Engineer
A tier · Turrets that cluster and scale harder than anyone else's.
Entrepreneur
A tier · Cheaper items, harvesting that scales 50% harder, and materials that are damage.
Explorer
A tier · A bigger map, faster feet, and materials from wandering.
Farmer
B tier · Harvesting with extra compounding; the richest potato by wave 20, if it survives wave 8.
Fisherman
A tier · Bait spawns special enemies and pays harvesting per bait held.
Gangster
C tier · Steal one item per shop; the price is an elite that may follow you in.
Generalist
C tier · Melee feeds ranged and ranged feeds melee; three of each, always.
Ghost
C tier · Ninety percent dodge is possible — and armor is gone forever.
Gladiator
B tier · More different weapons, more attack speed — six different melee weapons is the goal.
Glutton
B tier · Consumables explode and feed explosion damage; eat your way to a win.
Golem
S tier · Armor and Max HP scale a third harder, and it never heals — on purpose.
Hiker
B tier · Steps are money and steps are health; never stop walking.
Hunter
A tier · Range is damage, crit scales harder, and harvesting is off the table.
Jack
A tier · Fewer enemies, but elites and bosses are the whole game — and the whole payout.
King
S tier · Tier IV items and weapons each add stats; a mid-game spike that wins Danger 5.
Knight
B tier · Armor is melee damage; buys only tier II and above.
Lich
B tier · Healing is an attack; regen and life steal fire a shot every time they trigger.
Loud
S tier · More enemies is more materials; the damage bonus does the rest.
Lucky
A tier · Luck is damage, drops and rarity at once.
Mage
A tier · Elemental damage scales harder and spreads fire; melee and ranged are gone.
Masochist
C tier · Getting hit is the damage stat.
Multitasker
C tier · Twelve weapons, each a little weaker; shops get expensive.
Mutant
B tier · Levels come three times faster; items cost half again as much.
Ogre
B tier · Overkill explosions; heavy melee weapons with huge single hits.
Old
B tier · A smaller, slower arena where turrets reach everything.
One Armed
C tier · One weapon only, at triple attack speed with doubled damage modifiers.
Pacifist
C tier · Living enemies pay you at wave end; killing is the opposite of the plan.
Ranger
A tier · Ranged damage scales 50% harder; the safest learning character.
Renegade
C tier · Extra projectiles and pierce, with Tier I items as damage.
Romantic
C tier · Charms low-health enemies and gets range on melee weapons.
Sailor
A tier · Naval weapons deal triple to cursed enemies; needs curse from somewhere.
Saver
B tier · Materials in the bank are damage; prices are higher.
Sick
C tier · Loses 1 HP per second, steals it back on every hit.
Soldier
B tier · Stand still to hit hard; move to reposition, never to fight.
Speedy
C tier · Speed is melee damage, and standing still is deadly.
Streamer
B tier · Materials tick in while standing still; damage and speed come while moving.
Technomage
S tier · Elemental damage speeds up structures, and structures grant elemental damage.
Vagabond
C tier · Every weapon counts for every other weapon's class bonus; no duplicates allowed.
Vampire
A tier · Missing health is damage, life steal and armour.
Well Rounded
C tier · No gimmick, no weakness; learn the game here.
Wildling
B tier · Primitive weapons steal life; nothing above tier II.
Wounded
D tier · Dies in one hit. A challenge run, not a build.
