Chef guide — how to play Chef in Brotato

Updated 2026-11-01 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws

Hits burning enemies for triple damage; the best co-op partner a Mage can have. Our tier list puts Chef in B tier: Burning-enemy damage. Needs a fire source, excellent in co-op with a mage.

The stat line

  • +35 Luck
  • +200% damage from non elemental sources against burning targets
  • Consumables explode for 5x1 (+100% Elemental Damage) burning damage when picked up
  • You start with 1 Scared Sausage
  • +100% Enemy health
  • Elemental Damage modifications are reduced by 75%

Chef comes with the Abyssal Terrors DLC. Unlock: Have at least 25 enemies burning at the same time. Winning a run unlocks Spoon.

How the run plays

+200% damage from non-elemental sources against burning targets means the Chef wants someone or something to set enemies alight: Torch, fire-spreading items, or a Mage teammate. Consumables explode for burning damage when picked up, so eating fruit mid-fight is an attack. +35 Luck gives the economy a head start.

Weapons

Chef fits the Blade or Elemental classes best. Start with Chopper, Torch, Plank, Wand and hold six weapons of one class for the set bonus; the weapons list shows everything in the Blade class with per-tier damage.

What to buy, what to skip

One fire source, then any non-elemental weapon class, Luck items, Max HP.

The shop has no favoured tags for this character.

The mistake that ends runs

Running pure elemental weapons; the bonus applies to non-elemental damage.

Co-op partners

  • Technomage — Burn spreads across the arena. The burn-bonus character hits everything that is on fire.
  • Mage — Mage spreads fire, Chef's damage against burning enemies finishes them. Chef can run any weapon class.
