Cryptid guide — how to play Cryptid in Brotato
Updated 2026-11-01 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws
Trees are money, XP and regen; protect the grove and the run plays itself. Our tier list puts Cryptid in S tier: Trees are free regen, materials and XP. Protect them and the run becomes a formality.
The stat line
- More trees spawn text=(+6)
- Gain text=12 material and XP for every living tree at the end of a wave
- +3 HP Regeneration for every current living tree
- Dodge is capped at 70%
- +3 Attack Speed until the end of the wave when you dodge an attack
- -100% Life Steal
- -100 Range
- -50% materials dropped from enemies
Unlock: Finish a wave with 10 or more living trees. Winning a run unlocks Claw.
How the run plays
Six extra trees per wave, 12 materials and XP per living tree at wave end, and +3 regen per tree make the Cryptid an economy and survival character at once. The job is to keep enemies off the trees and position inside the grove. Dodge is capped at 70% here, ten points higher than usual.
Weapons
Cryptid fits the Primitive or Tool classes best. Start with Cacti Club, Rock, Stick, Hatchet, Screwdriver and hold six weapons of one class for the set bonus; the weapons list shows everything in the Primitive class with per-tier damage.
What to buy, what to skip
Tree-tag items, Dodge up to 70%, HP Regen. Skip Lumberjack Shirt.
The shop favours Exploration, Dodge items for Cryptid, so expect to see these often: Bag, Lumberjack Shirt, Tree, Feather, Peaceful Bee, Riposte, Blindfold, Leather Vest.
The mistake that ends runs
Killing trees for the immediate drop or taking tree-killing items.
