Dwarf guide — how to play Dwarf in Brotato

Updated 2026-11-01 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws

Big melee hits earn engineering, and engineering earns melee damage. Our tier list puts Dwarf in A tier: Heavy weapons with HP scaling. Slow, inevitable.

The stat line

  • +1 Engineering when killing at least 6 enemies with a direct weapon hit
  • +1 Melee Damage for every permanent 2 Engineering you have
  • You can't equip ranged weapons
  • -20% Dodge
  • -100% Attack Speed
  • % Attack Speed modifications are reduced by 50%

Dwarf comes with the Abyssal Terrors DLC. Unlock: Hit at least 25 enemies with a single melee attack. Winning a run unlocks War Hammer.

How the run plays

Killing six enemies with one direct hit gives +1 Engineering, and every 2 permanent Engineering gives +1 Melee Damage, so wide heavy weapons that hit crowds are the engine. No ranged weapons at all. Start slow, snowball late: by wave 15 the loop pays out on every swing.

Weapons

Dwarf fits the Heavy or Blunt classes best. Start with Hammer, Brick, Mace and hold six weapons of one class for the set bonus; the weapons list shows everything in the Heavy class with per-tier damage.

What to buy, what to skip

Heavy and Blunt weapons, Melee Damage, Max HP, Armor. Abyssal Terrors only.

The shop favours Engineering, Structure items for Dwarf, so expect to see these often: Pencil, Book, Landmines, Turret, Duct Tape, Cog, Compass, Incendiary Turret.

The mistake that ends runs

Fast single-target weapons; the engineering trigger needs multi-kills.
