Generalist guide — how to play Generalist in Brotato
Updated 2026-11-01 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws
Melee feeds ranged and ranged feeds melee; three of each, always. Our tier list puts Generalist in C tier: Three melee plus three ranged. Set bonuses suffer.
The stat line
- +2 Melee Damage for every 1 Ranged Damage you have
- +1 Ranged Damage for every 2 Melee Damage you have
- You can only equip 3 melee weapons and 3 ranged weapons at a time
Unlock: Collect 2000 materials. Winning a run unlocks Big Arms.
How the run plays
+2 Melee Damage per Ranged Damage and +1 Ranged per 2 Melee create a loop where any flat damage item helps both sides. You are locked to three melee and three ranged weapons, which halves the set bonuses, so classes with two-weapon bonuses matter most.
Weapons
Generalist fits the Blade or Gun classes best. Start with Double Barrel Shotgun, SMG, Shredder, Revolver, Laser Gun and hold six weapons of one class for the set bonus; the weapons list shows everything in the Blade class with per-tier damage.
What to buy, what to skip
Flat Melee or Ranged Damage items, Attack Speed, Max HP.
The shop favours Melee Damage, Ranged Damage items for Generalist, so expect to see these often: Boxing Glove, Feather, Charcoal, Claw Tree, Defective Steroids, Lens, Goat Skull, Mutation.
The mistake that ends runs
Chasing a six-weapon set bonus that the character cannot reach.
