Hiker guide — how to play Hiker in Brotato
Updated 2026-11-01 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws
Steps are money and steps are health; never stop walking. Our tier list puts Hiker in B tier: Materials from distance travelled. Comfortable mid-tier economy.
The stat line
- Earn 5 materials for every 10 steps you take during a wave
- +1 Max HP for every 80 steps you take during a wave
- % Speed modifications are increased by 10%
- -5% Speed
- -50% materials dropped
Hiker comes with the Abyssal Terrors DLC. Unlock: Walk a total of 20000 steps. Winning a run unlocks Scarf.
How the run plays
Five materials per 10 steps and +1 Max HP per 80 steps turn movement into income and bulk. Speed modifications are increased, so Speed items compound the whole kit. A kiting ranged build with a wide circle keeps the counter running all wave.
Weapons
Hiker fits the Gun or Precise classes best. Start with Thief Dagger, Pistol and hold six weapons of one class for the set bonus; the weapons list shows everything in the Gun class with per-tier damage.
What to buy, what to skip
Speed, Ranged weapons, Harvesting, Pickup Range.
The shop favours Speed items for Hiker, so expect to see these often: Terrified Onion, Beanie, Compass, Clockwork Wasp, Saltwater, Medal, Fin, Power Generator.
The mistake that ends runs
Standing still to shoot. Hikers who camp are broke.
Co-op partners
- Loud — More enemies means more drops, and the economy character turns the extra materials into shops for the whole team.
- Builder — An economy partner keeps materials dropping while the builder leaves them on the ground.
- Multitasker — The shared economy pays for a character whose shops are unusually expensive.
