Masochist guide — how to play Masochist in Brotato

Updated 2026-11-01 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws

Getting hit is the damage stat. Our tier list puts Masochist in C tier: Damage per hit taken. The hits add up.

The stat line

  • +5% Damage when you take damage until the end of the wave
  • +10 Max HP
  • +20 HP Regeneration
  • +8 Armor
  • -100% Damage

Unlock: Win a run in Danger 3. Winning a run unlocks Spiky Shield.

How the run plays

+5% Damage per hit taken until the end of the wave, with +10 Max HP, +20 HP Regen and +8 Armor to survive the hits, and -100% Damage to start. The run is about taking many small hits: armor keeps them small, regen keeps you alive, and by mid-wave you hit hard.

Weapons

Masochist fits the Heavy or Blunt classes best. Start with Rock, Cacti Club, Spiky Shield, Brick and hold six weapons of one class for the set bonus; the weapons list shows everything in the Heavy class with per-tier damage.

What to buy, what to skip

HP Regen, Armor, Max HP, melee weapons. Skip Dodge.

The shop favours Max HP, Armor, HP Regeneration, Life Steal items for Masochist, so expect to see these often: Weird Ghost, Alien Worm, Cake, Helmet, Jelly, Plant, Bat, Defective Steroids.

The mistake that ends runs

Dodge items; dodged hits do not count.
