Mutant guide — how to play Mutant in Brotato

Updated 2026-11-01 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws

Levels come three times faster; items cost half again as much. Our tier list puts Mutant in B tier: Faster levelling means more stat upgrades. The stats are generic.

The stat line

  • -66% XP required to level up
  • +50% Items Price

Unlock: Kill 2000 enemies. Winning a run unlocks Octopus.

How the run plays

-66% XP to level means a flood of stat upgrades; +50% item price means the shop is mostly for weapons. The Mutant wins through level-up stats, so choose upgrades deliberately: damage until wave 8, then alternating Max HP and Armor.

Weapons

Mutant fits the Blade or Gun classes best. Start with Double Barrel Shotgun, SMG, Revolver, Shredder and hold six weapons of one class for the set bonus; the weapons list shows everything in the Blade class with per-tier damage.

What to buy, what to skip

Weapons and merges, a few key items only. XP Gain items are good.

The shop favours XP Gain items for Mutant, so expect to see these often: Scar, Celery Tea, Black Belt, Peacock, Bean Teacher, Barnacle, Diploma.

The mistake that ends runs

Buying items at full price in the mid game; levels give the stats.

Co-op partners

No standout pair in the synergy rules yet; Mutant works with any economy character.
