Tool weapons guide — set bonus, every weapon, who should build it
Updated 2026-11-01 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws
Engineering from the set; the weapons that structure builds hold because something has to fill the slots. 4 weapons carry the Tool tag; the set bonus below applies for every Tool weapon you hold at once, duplicates included.
Set bonus
| Weapons held | Bonus |
|---|---|
| 2 | +1 Engineering |
| 3 | +2 Engineering |
| 4 | +3 Engineering |
| 5 | +4 Engineering |
| 6 | +5 Engineering |
How a Tool build plays
Four Tool weapons: Wrench and Screwdriver at Tier I, Chainsaw and War Hammer at Tier III from the DLC. The set bonus is up to +5 Engineering, which makes the class the obvious filler on Engineer, Technomage and Builder — the weapons are secondary, the bonus feeds the turrets. Wrench also repairs structures on hit. Chainsaw is a real weapon in its own right (Blade, fast, 175 reach) if you want the rack to do some damage.
Every Tool weapon
Numbers are the lowest tier the weapon exists at; open a weapon for all four tiers and its scaling.
| Weapon | Tiers | Damage | Cooldown | DPS | Crit | Range | Also |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Screwdriver | 1–4 | 8 | 1.06s | 7.5 | 10% | 135 | – |
| Wrench | 1–4 | 12 | 1.7s | 7.1 | 3% | 175 | – |
| War Hammer | 3–4 | 100 | 2.11s | 47.3 | – | 200 | Blunt (DLC) |
| Chainsaw | 3–4 | 10 | 0.53s | 18.8 | – | 175 | Blade (DLC) |
The core of a six-of set is usually Wrench, Screwdriver, Chainsaw, War Hammer; the rest fill in as the shop offers them.
Characters that fit the class
- Artificer — Explosions scale with elemental damage, and nothing else matters.
- Builder — Materials you leave on the ground become turret range and attack speed.
- Cryptid — Trees are money, XP and regen; protect the grove and the run plays itself.
- Cyborg — Ranged damage triples as a modifier and flips into engineering mid-wave.
- Engineer — Turrets that cluster and scale harder than anyone else's.
- Farmer — Harvesting with extra compounding; the richest potato by wave 20, if it survives wave 8.
- Old — A smaller, slower arena where turrets reach everything.
- Streamer — Materials tick in while standing still; damage and speed come while moving.
- Technomage — Elemental damage speeds up structures, and structures grant elemental damage.
Overlapping classes
Tool weapons also count as Blunt, Blade, so a Tool rack can trigger a second set bonus without an extra slot. The weapons list filters by class.
The mistake that ends runs
Buying Tool weapons for their damage on a non-structure character. Without Engineering the set bonus is dead weight.
See the set bonus ranking for how Tool compares with the other sixteen classes, or test a rack in the build planner.
