Blunt weapons guide — set bonus, every weapon, who should build it
Updated 2026-11-01 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws
Big slow hits, Armor and Max HP from the set, a Speed penalty you have to plan around. 6 weapons carry the Blunt tag; the set bonus below applies for every Blunt weapon you hold at once, duplicates included.
Set bonus
| Weapons held | Bonus |
|---|---|
| 2 | +1 Armor -2% Speed |
| 3 | +1 Armor +3 Max HP -4% Speed |
| 4 | +2 Armor +3 Max HP -6% Speed |
| 5 | +2 Armor +6 Max HP -8% Speed |
| 6 | +3 Armor +6 Max HP -10% Speed |
How a Blunt build plays
Blunt weapons trade attack speed for weight: Rock does 20 at Tier I, Hammer 40 at Tier II, War Hammer 100 at Tier III with a two-second swing. The set bonus is defensive — up to +3 Armor and +9 Max HP — and it costs up to 10% Speed at six, so the build stands and fights rather than kiting. Overkill characters love it: a single Blunt hit over an enemy's max health is what Ogre's explosion wants. Scale Melee Damage; the long cooldowns mean each point lands on a hit that already counts.
Every Blunt weapon
Numbers are the lowest tier the weapon exists at; open a weapon for all four tiers and its scaling.
| Weapon | Tiers | Damage | Cooldown | DPS | Crit | Range | Also |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brick | 1–4 | 30 | 1.39s | 21.5 | – | 150 | – (DLC) |
| Rock | 1–4 | 20 | 1.68s | 11.9 | 10% | 150 | Primitive |
| Spoon | 1–4 | 10 | 1.06s | 9.4 | – | 150 | – (DLC) |
| Spiky Shield | 1–4 | 10 | 1.16s | 8.6 | 3% | 150 | Medieval |
| Hammer | 2–4 | 40 | 1.67s | 21 | 3% | 175 | Heavy |
| War Hammer | 3–4 | 100 | 2.11s | 47.3 | – | 200 | Tool (DLC) |
The core of a six-of set is usually Hammer, War Hammer, Rock, Brick, Spiky Shield; the rest fill in as the shop offers them.
Characters that fit the class
- Bull — A tank that explodes when hit, with regen that scales half again as hard.
- Chunky — Max HP is damage, so every heart you buy hits harder.
- Demon — You pay for items with Max HP, and materials become Max HP at wave end.
- Dwarf — Big melee hits earn engineering, and engineering earns melee damage.
- Glutton — Consumables explode and feed explosion damage; eat your way to a win.
- Masochist — Getting hit is the damage stat.
- Ogre — Overkill explosions; heavy melee weapons with huge single hits.
Overlapping classes
Blunt weapons also count as Primitive, Medieval, Heavy, Tool, so a Blunt rack can trigger a second set bonus without an extra slot. The weapons list filters by class.
The mistake that ends runs
Taking six Blunt on a kiting character; the Speed penalty makes you catchable by wave 12.
See the set bonus ranking for how Blunt compares with the other sixteen classes, or test a rack in the build planner.
