Engineer guide — how to play Engineer in Brotato

Updated 2026-11-01 · for v1.1 + Paws & Claws

Turrets that cluster and scale harder than anyone else's. Our tier list puts Engineer in A tier: Structures ignore most defensive pressure. Weak start, dominant late.

The stat line

  • +10 Engineering
  • Engineering modifications are increased by 25%
  • You start with 1 Wrench
  • Structures spawn close to each other
  • Damage modifications are reduced by 50%

Unlock: Get 5 turrets on the map simultaneously. Winning a run unlocks Robot Arm.

How the run plays

+10 Engineering, +25% engineering modifications and structures that spawn close together make the Engineer a fortress builder. Your weapons are support; the Wrench exists to repair and to fill a slot. Damage modifications are reduced, so personal DPS is never the plan. Co-op teammates love the turret ring.

Weapons

Engineer fits the Tool class best. Start with Wrench, Screwdriver and hold six weapons of one class for the set bonus; the weapons list shows everything in the Tool class with per-tier damage.

What to buy, what to skip

Engineering, Structure-tag items, Max HP, Armor.

The shop favours Engineering, Structure items for Engineer, so expect to see these often: Pencil, Book, Landmines, Turret, Duct Tape, Cog, Compass, Incendiary Turret.

The mistake that ends runs

Buying weapon damage. Engineering is the only stat that moves the structures.

Co-op partners

  • Streamer — Every structure on the field feeds the structure-bonus passive.
  • Old — Old shrinks the map and slows enemies. Engineer's turrets then reach everything and fire for longer. The classic turret lockdown.
  • Technomage — Two engineering players cover the map. Engineering items are rarely contested.
